Linode (now part of Akamai) is one of the oldest and most respected names in cloud hosting. Founded in 2003, Linode has built a reputation for reliable infrastructure, simple pricing, and excellent customer support over more than two decades of operation.

Linode offers cloud instances across 11 global datacenters including North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The platform is developer-friendly with a clean API, CLI tools, and one-click app marketplace for popular software like WordPress, Docker, and LAMP stacks.

Akamai's acquisition of Linode in 2022 brought additional resources and network infrastructure, strengthening Linode's already reliable platform. The company maintains its focus on simplicity and developer experience.

Linode's pricing is transparent and straightforward. The Nanode 1 GB plan at $5/month offers 1 CPU, 25 GB SSD, and 1 TB transfer. The Linode 2 GB plan at $10/month doubles to 2 CPUs, 50 GB SSD, and 2 TB transfer. All plans include free outbound data transfer within the allowance, with overage at $0.01/GB.

Linode provides consistent, reliable performance. The KVM virtualization ensures dedicated resources, and the SSD storage performs well for both read and write operations. Akamai's network integration has improved routing and peering. Like other US-based providers, Linode does not offer China-optimized routing. Expect standard 200-250ms latency from China.

Linode's strongest advantage is its customer support — widely considered the best among major cloud providers. Compared to DigitalOcean, Linode has fewer datacenters but stronger infrastructure reliability. Vultr offers more locations and hourly billing, while Linode excels in support and long-term reliability.

Linode remains a top choice for users who value reliability, support, and simplicity. While lacking some of the flashy features of competitors, the core VPS offering is rock-solid. For production workloads where uptime and support matter, Linode is an excellent choice.
